What is the difference between Naver and Google?

Why the same website shows up on Google but not on Naver, and how the two search engines look at different things.

In this article
  1. 01Naver shows its own content first
  2. 02Google looks at the quality of the page itself
  3. 03So, to cover both

A Korean shop's website needs to work for both Naver and Google. Most customers search on Naver, but AI answers, map apps and visitors from abroad rely on Google's data. The catch is that the two judge sites quite differently.

Naver shows its own content first

On Naver, the top of the results is taken by Naver's own services such as Place, Blog, Cafe and Knowledge iN. Outside websites appear separately in the "Websites" section, and even then they are only collected properly once you register with Naver Search Advisor and submit a sitemap. It is common for a site that was simply launched without registering to stay invisible for months.

  • Register the site in Naver Search Advisor and verify ownership
  • Submit a sitemap (sitemap.xml) and RSS feed
  • Make the business name, address and phone number on Naver Place and your website exactly the same
  • Keep a "News" page on your website and update it regularly

Google looks at the quality of the page itself

Google does not treat outside websites differently. Instead it checks carefully whether the page is fast, whether it looks good on a phone, whether the title and description match the content, and whether there is structured data. If you add your business details as structured data in particular, Google reads things like your opening hours accurately.

  • Register with Google Search Console and submit a sitemap
  • A different title and description for every page
  • Business (LocalBusiness) and FAQ structured data
  • Keep an eye on your Core Web Vitals (speed and stability) scores
  • Match your Google Business Profile with the details on your website

So, to cover both

Luckily, a lot overlaps. Accurate information written as text, a title for each page, a sitemap and fast loading help on both. On top of that, add "registration and regular news" for Naver and "structured data and speed" for Google. ISSYMO includes Naver and Google registration, a sitemap, structured data and a fast first screen in every website as standard.

You don't need to rebuild your website just because it doesn't show up on Naver. Most of the time it was never registered or has no sitemap. Check Naver Search Advisor first.
